Requesting the poem

If you ask for an image
it will be given unto you

every time, but you must
pay close attention,

for it may be delivered
by the jay alighting on

the fence, or the jangling
of car keys, or the sun

playing hide-and-seek with
the cumulo-nimbus overhead.

It may last only a moment,
the briefest flicker,

waiting to see if you
were wide-eyed,

quick enough, to snatch
it out of the air

and write it down.
